Natural Gas Liquids - Supply Outlook 2008 - 2015
Total natural gas liquids (NGLs) are often under-reported or misrepresented in global oil balances, yet accounted for as much as 13% of global oil supply in 2009. With the generous support of a voluntary contribution from Norway’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, the IEA’s Oil Industry and Markets Division (OIMD) has been able to review NGL existing data sources and methodology. Our goal was to thoroughly assess the prospects for global NGL supply as natural gas production and liquids extraction capabilities evolve.
This report provides an in-depth review of condensate and other NGL data and OIMD forecasts, and clarifies the terms and definitions for NGLs used in the IEA’s Oil Market Report (OMR) and Medium-Term Oil Market Report (MTOMR), as well as in other IEA statistics and publications. It also highlights issues concerning data quality on NGL production and usage, and provides both a 2008-2015 supply forecast and a detailed analysis of medium-term trends.
